Elyria Swansea Homes for Sale in Denver
The Elyria Swansea neighborhood is most prized for its spectacular nightlife and is also known as the home of the Denver Coliseum. Located along the Interstate 70 corridor, residents have easy access for commuters to reach employers in neighboring cities.
The neighborhood boundaries include the South Platte River to the west, Colorado Boulevard to the east, Adams County to the north and 38th and 40th Avenue to the south.
Elyria Swansea History
In the late 1800's, Elyria and Swansea were two different neighborhoods and held their own distinct histories. The Swansea neighborhood was named after the mining seaport town of Swansea in Wales. Early on, there was a Swansea smelter, a factory for smelting metal from its ore.
Elyria was incorporated in 1890 and a few years later, a Town Hall was built. It was the more political community and addressed many of the social issues of the time, including a gambling ordinance and the annexation of five taverns in the area.
The most influential decision made for this area, was the building of Interstate 70, which was built through both the Elyria and Swansea neighborhoods in the early 1960's even though residents and business owners disliked the idea due to concerns about how it would impact the home values.
Real Estate
With a population of 6,636, a little more than half of the residents in Elyria Swansea rent their homes, while approximately 46% are owner occupied.
The median home value is $249,785 making it one of the more affordable neighborhoods to live in around Denver. Renters pay an average of $1,191 per month.
While there are currently not many homes for sale in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood, there are many vacant buildable lots or remodeled historic homes and multi-family housing units.
Places to Visit
There are many fantastic places for dining, having drinks and shopping in this area. Here are a few favorites.
- Yacht Club Bar: This bar is touted as one of the best in Denver, loved for its top-notch drinks, cocktails, and food options, as well as its fantastic friendly staff.
- Grizzly Rose Saloon and Concert Hall: This bar is known for hosting some of the best country concerts in Denver and across the nation. It has a huge hardwood dance floor, a private banquet facility, two mechanical bulls, a pool room and smoke shop all in one place for a fun-filled night of entertainment.
- Fort Greene Bar: This bar is loved for his hip laid-back atmosphere, creative events and activities, live music and friendly staff, in addition to its fantastic liquor selection and outstanding menu.
Parks and Recreation Centers
Elyria Swansea has many parks and recreation centers available to the public. These include:
- Swansea Park at 49th Avenue and Clayton Street,
- Swansea Recreation Center at 2650 East 49th Avenue,
- Elyria Park at 48th Avenue and High Street,
- Johnson Recreation Center at 4809 Race Street,
- Dunham Park at 44th Avenue and Clayton Street, and
- A future park development planned at 52nd Avenue and Cook Street.
Denver Coliseum
The Denver Coliseum in Elyria Swansea holds 10,200 people and hosts all kind of events including commencement ceremonies, rodeos, ice shows, concerts, motor shows, circuses, dances, and many more.
