The Lowry neighborhood (also called Lowry Field) in Denver, Colorado has a rich history as the Lowry Air Force Base, which sustained aerial operations from 1938 to 1966.

Upon the closure in 1994, a redevelopment plan preserved Lowry's historic past while constructing new homes and commercial properties, making it the diverse community it is today.

The boundaries for the Lowry neighborhood are 11th Avenue to the north; East Alameda Avenue to the south; Yosemite, Dayton and Fulton streets to the east; and Quebec Street and Monaco Parkway to the west.

Fun facts about Lowry

• During the 1950's, Lowry became the Summer White House for President Dwight Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie Doud Eisenhower.
• Throughout the 57-year span of operations, Lowry Air Force Base was where military veterans received technical skills training for operations in World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War and Vietnam.
• The United States Air Force Academy was at Lowry from 1955-1958, while its permanent campus was being constructed in Colorado Springs
